The Alhambra Palace

sdr

This year in Spain, I’ve tried to focus on seeing all the best things that this beautiful country offers. Every time I talked to Spanish friends or searched “Top Things to See in Spain” on Google, the Alhambra was always at the top of the list. So when I got the chance to go to Granada with my friends, Ellie and Cathy, I knew that I wanted to go see it. Continue reading “The Alhambra Palace” →

Granada

So despite aiming to take one overnight trip away each month, by the time 2019 rolled around, I still hadn’t gone on any. Being sick and settling into my new city work as two great excuses, but I needed to get started if I was going to visit as much of Spain as possible. During our lovely trip to Salamanca, myself, Ellie and Cathy got talking about Granada and we decided we would head off for a girls weekend at the end of February. Continue reading “Granada” →

Off to Aranjuez

dav

So right now it’s February, which Madrileños like to say is the hardest winter month. Yet, a huge difference between winter in Madrid and winter in Dublin is the sun. Hardly a day goes past here without me feeling the sun on my skin. It helps that the weather is particularly good at the moment. Last Friday, at our weekly teacher lunch, we were even able to sit outside on the patio to have our lunch, and some of the teachers were a little red in the face after from the sun.  It is bliss, and a far call from the depressing and dark Irish winters. Vaughan Day Town

From my second time in March – try and spot me,  I barely can!

So normally on Saturdays, all I want to do is sleep. I’ve just finished a busy week in school and I am normally exhausted. Yet, on a cold Saturday morning, I got up at 7:30 and headed to Las Tablas for an English Immersion course. Of course, as an English speaker, I was not a student, but instead, I was a volunteer for the day. I had heard about the course, Vaughan DayTown, from one of the Madrid English Teacher groups that I am in on Facebook, but I was lucky to have a mutual friend who had volunteered before. I got in touch with her and she promised I would love it, so I decided to sign up. Continue reading “Vaughan Day Town” →

Side Step: Guinness Storehouse

At the Sky Bar

Though this blog, at least for the time being, is focused on my life here in Madrid, I thought it would be fun to share a little bit of sightseeing I did when I was back in Dublin at Christmas. It’s a little mad how much sightseeing most people do once they leave their own city or country, forgetting they have their own places to explore. My sister, Jenny, however, is always looking out for opportunities to see something different and new, and she is pretty good at following through with her plans. Day Trip to Segovia

img-20190122-wa0002

While my friends, Imogen, Jane and Molly, were in Madrid, we decided to take advantage of their third day of the city, and well, leave it. By Tuesday night, we had pretty much seen all you could see on a basic trip to Madrid, especially seeing as they had done a walking tour with their hostel. So seeing as we had two engineering students in the group, I suggested we head to Segovia, where there is a famous Roman aqueduct. Continue reading “Day Trip to Segovia” →

Visitors in Madrid

img-20190114-wa0050

January 2019 in Madrid started off with a bang, as within 10 days of returning to my new home city, I was joined by not only my sister, but by three of my best friends. Since I announced my plans for moving to Spain for the year, I’ve been trying to get as many people out to visit me as possible. Not only because I miss these people, but also because I love showing off what is probably my favourite city in the world. Continue reading “Visitors in Madrid” →

Catch up time

dav
My first Sunday back meant a long walk in El Retiro Park with my housemates. This is El Palacio de Cristal (The Glass Palace), an exhibition space there. Even though its January, its still beautiful out here in Madrid.

Hi guys!

So it’s apology time. I’m really sorry that I haven’t been active on the blog for nearly a month now. With preparation for Christmas and being home in Ireland for two weeks, I just let it slip and suddenly I was being asked, “when are we going to get another post?” Continue reading “Catch up time” →
